Feeding The World 2023

Aggiornamento: 22 gen 2023

As many as 828 million people go to bed hungry every night. The number of those facing acute food insecurity has soared - from 135 million to 345 million - since 2019. A total of 49 million people in 49 countries are teetering on the edge of famine.

Food scarcity is a major issue that affects people all over the world. It refers to the lack of availability of enough food to meet the needs of a population. This can be due to a number of factors, including natural disasters, war, and economic instability.

One of the most common causes of food scarcity is natural disasters, such as droughts, floods, and hurricanes. These disasters can destroy crops and disrupt transportation systems, making it difficult for food to reach those in need.

War and conflict is a major leading factor in food scarcity. For example the conflict between Russia and Ukraine stopped the travel of most of that year's harvest which was a big problem because Ukraine is one of the biggest cereal and grain producer in the world.

When countries are at war, their infrastructure is often destroyed, making it difficult to grow transport, and distribute food. Additionally, people may be displaced from their homes and farms, making it difficult for them to grow their own food.

Economic instability can also contribute to food scarcity. When people are living in poverty, they may not have the resources to buy enough food to meet their needs.

The impact of food scarcity can be devastating. Malnutrition, which is caused by a lack of access to sufficient, diverse, and nutritious food, can lead to serious health problems, including stunted growth, impaired cognitive development, and Amenia which occurs when your blood produces a lower-than-normal amount of healthy red blood cells. Children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of malnutrition.

As you can see here the child in this picture is suffering from Amenia because he wasn't provided with enough food and his own family couldn't afford to keep him, so thye made the hard decision to leave him at the hospital. Many African family's have to leave their children to medical centers because they can afford to feed them. As many as 1.2 million children every ear in Africa are left to care taking centers because family's can't afford to feed them.

There are a number of ways to reduce or stop food scarcity. One solution is to increase food production through sustainable agriculture practices. This can be done by using techniques such as drip irrigation, which helps to conserve water, and using crop rotation, which helps to maintain soil fertility.

Another solution is to improve access to food through better transportation systems and distribution networks. This can be done by building roads and improving infrastructure in rural areas, which can help to connect farmers to markets where they can sell their crops.

There are also a number of organisations and initiatives that work to address food scarcity. For example, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) which is one of many leading global organisation that works to combat hunger and malnutrition by providing food assistance to those in need.
